Smarter real estate investments through geospatial data
In real estate investment, identifying properties with renovation or expansion potential at scale is often more guesswork than science. Agilytic partnered with an investment company to change that, using geospatial data to systematically pinpoint buildings worth acquiring.

Context and objectives
The client sought to determine whether combining and integrating multiple data sources from different domains could effectively help identify and pinpoint buildings that demonstrated high business potential. This analysis focused on two specific types of real estate improvements:
Energy renovation projects
Post compaction developments, i.e. the process of expanding and densifying existing buildings in order to significantly increase their total usable floor area and maximize the value of the property
Approach
1. Mapping the data landscape
Agilytic conducted a comprehensive exploration of available geospatial data across public, commercial, and regulatory sources. The team assessed each source for accessibility, cost, coverage, and usability. This allowed them to uncover both valuable assets and critical gaps in the data ecosystem.
2. Developing a building-level scoring model
Using the most relevant variables from available data sources, the team built a composite score to rank buildings by renovation and expansion potential. They also created an interactive map highlighting the most promising investment targets across the study area.
Results
The project delivered two key outcomes:
A data landscape report cataloging all relevant data sources for real estate investment analysis, with a clear assessment of what is accessible, at what cost, and where gaps remain
A prototype scoring system mapping buildings by potential, enabling the investment team to focus field efforts on the highest-value targets
The approach is designed to be scalable to other regions and extensible with additional data sources as they become available.
